GLory Story: The family that prays together, stays together

december 2020

A Glory Story is a holy success story! More specifically, it is a short story sharing how God has become better known in the lives of people who have had contact with the ASJB. These stories are full of hope and give all glory to God! Every month we share a new story here so be sure to check in monthly to be uplifted by how God works in the lives of so many!

If you have a Glory Story of your own to share or have seen God work through the ASJB, contact us and we can feature your story!

To encounter Christ through friendship is a beautiful gift, but what if those friends were actually your family? To go deeper in faith with family is a priceless gift, and it is exactly what the Mondoro and Hurley families have received! This group of cousins has grown up together, some have gone off to college together, and they have learned how to love together. See what their family has meant to them during their transitions to college and how the ASJB has helped to bring them even closer together.

John Hurley, pictured to the left, wrote to us saying the following: “To experience College Night with 6 of my cousins was a lot of fun. Jean, Jordyn, and Josh (veterans in ASJB), and Nicholas, Jacob, and Jonathon (all freshmen at our respective colleges), prompted me to go to College Nights and to be open to grow in our faith. Attending College Nights with my cousins brought to light the immense importance of growing in faith as a family, and challenging one another on a regular basis to fully embody our Catholic faith. Doing things as a family is always important, but growing in faith as a family through ASJB has been very spiritually rewarding to my cousins and me. I really look forward to volunteering at future College Nights with my cousins and developing a resilient, Catholic faith with the entire ASJB community.”

John’s testimony is made even stronger through the words of his sister, Jordyn. She, too, attests to the strength of faith through family. Jordyn tells us that “experiencing ASJB with my family has helped strengthen my faith in college because of the accountability and unity it’s created between us. Being able to experience the College Nights together and listen to each other's testimonies has helped us to grow closer and move towards God together. Since experiencing ASJB, there’s also a greater sense of accountability among us. While we’re all at different universities, it’s comforting to know that I have so many family members praying for me while we’re all experiencing the same ups and downs of college. Witnessing my family members’ faith at the College Nights and checking in with them over the past few months of college continues to inspire me to grow in my faith every day.”

How beautiful that these siblings are able to stay connected by their faith even in the midst of the chaos that college life can bring!

Jean Mondoro, cousin to the Hurley siblings, elaborates further by saying, “growing in faith with my family is a pretty amazing and powerful thing. My older brothers and older sister all attended College Nights before they went to college, and when it was our turn, my younger brother and I went, too. We all had a desire to keep growing in our faith once we moved onto college. It’s truly inspiring to me to see so many family members who have attended these College Nights and have then gone out to serve others. When I look at my family, I’m reminded of how the Church is supposed to function as a family. Growing with my family, both in and out of the College Nights, never fails to challenge and encourage me to grow closer to Jesus in the family of His Church.”
