Cecilia Engbert, a freshman at Franciscan University, and Emma Parker, a freshman at Christopher Newport University, were ASJB scholarship recipients during the summer of 2019. In the stories below, they shared with us what the scholarship meant to them.

Cecilia wrote, “The ASJB Scholarship was an incredible blessing which financially assisted me to attend Franciscan University last fall. I am now studying Theology, Communications and English there and have been able to experience the presence of God uniquely in each!

“This scholarship found me in a transitional place in my life. I was going through a lot of discernment and indecision as I transferred colleges. When I was awarded with it, it felt like a sign and a breakthrough of faith. This scholarship challenged me to take a more focused look at my life, to locate where I need to be to serve the Lord and what I need to do to make that service a reality.

“This past year has been a wonderful year of discovery and renewal of trust in God. Through the difficulties and trials of life, I have been able to lean on the spiritual support of my university, which has been such a blessing. Thanks to the assistance of this scholarship, I was able to attend a Catholic college and receive the grace of God through my education and extra-curricular activities. I cannot express my gratitude to the Associates of St. John Bosco enough for providing the unique opportunity of this scholarship to Catholic students!”

Emma also shared, “The ASJB scholarship has allowed me to receive an education that would let me work for the Church after I graduate. Both the support of the people and the scholarship allowed me to envision myself working in social media for the Church, which I had not thought about before I revived the scholarship.

I am now studying communications and graphic design and I am active in my catholic campus ministry which will help me to work towards my career goal. The ASJB College Night allowed me to make connections and receive helpful insights on how to practically live out my Catholic faith in college. The scholarship and the College Night really helped me to find a home in the Catholic Community on campus and work towards my goal of working for the church after graduation.”
